If china is faking 100m , the rest of the world could be faking another half a billion if the same rate applies.

You have to remember all population figures are estimates.  Much like Voting, records can be double counted.  In rural areas, people still do have babies at home.  The local goobermint estimates a number and sends that number to the Provincial goobermint, which then sends it to the National goobermint which then sends it to the UN.

A census is generally done every 10 years, and for this in developed countries they temporarily hire workers to go out and survey areas.  This however is still just an estimate, because not everyone gets surveyed.  I have never even filled out a census form, much less had a direct interview with a census taker.  It's a costly business to try to cross check all the records, even if they have been accurately counted.

In places like Nigeria or Libya, how accurate do you think those figures are?  China's are probably more accurate then most places, but it still behooves every level of goobermint to over estimate the numbers.

The point here is though, we know fertility rates and reproduction are dropping, most in cities in the developed world but really just about everywhere.  It would not surprise me at all if the global population of Homo Saps is overcounted by half a billion.
